In my anti-Big Game hype cycle era
.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Chiefs-49ers in the Super Bowl, eh? Many people have strong opinions on that. Personally, I’m trying to avoid the polarizing minefield that comes with strong opinions on this matchup.
But I will say this: The two weeks-lead up to the Super Bowl is the most brutal time of the content calendar in sports media. Everything is so forced. Everything is so drawn out. Everything is so overhyped. There are so many advertising stunts. There are so many ways people try to leverage story lines around “The Big Game” for their own agenda.
The Super Bowl itself is awesome! But the lead-up is like nails on a chalkboard, every single year. It makes me want to gauge my eyes out.
The sane thing is to tune it all out until Super Bowl Sunday itself, when you can make fun of the whole three-ring spectacle with your friends at a Super Bowl party between bites of wings and spinach artichoke dip. Turn off your TV. Go watch college basketball or hockey. Read a book you’ve been putting off. Explore a new outdoor activity. Plan an epic summer vacation. Go see a concert. Maybe organize a closet or a couple of drawers in your kitchen.
Find literally anything to occupy your brain the next two weeks except the Super Bowl. It’s the only way to stay sane.
And on that note… Have a great week!

Bill Walton Couldn’t Believe Bronny James Was T’d Up For Chirping Rival After Big LeBron-Like Block
I don’t know if the technical was justified here or not. I’m just as confused a Bill Walton after watching that clip. I will say this: I do think there’s a paradigm shift happening in college sports around what is and isn’t sportsman-like as the NIL stakes get higher. Athletes are professional entertainers at the end of the day. As Maximus Decimus Meridius put it: An Ode To Jurgen Klopp: Memory Machine, Magic Master, Dream Maker
